Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, 2nd Edition

Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, 2nd EditionI’ve finished reading this excellent book, I think in some parts have a lot of content and some chapters are barely explained.

This book mandatory for HCI / usability areas, it clearly explain the role of information architecture through examples, but of course some of the links in the book are outdated

I’ve read through Safari Books (with my ACM Professional account), I’ve used Safari before with subscription for about a year, but I think now their main problem is they aren’t allowing read new books / editions (this book is in third edition for about a year, also I want to read the Ambient Findability book of the same author).

By the way, talking about HCI / usability, a good link is: http://scobleizer.com/2006/03/04/the-role-of-anti-marketing-design/ about ugly design =) ( I prefer to have a good looking professional site, even on that free sites ;-) )

Book: The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of the Lambs, WikipediaToday I finished to read The Silence of the Lambs, in this case the movie have minor changes to the novel but of course had cut several parts from novel for example Bella character (or mention) as the sickness wife of Crafword, or the last words of Jame Gumb (a.k.a Buffalo Bill):

How … does … it … feel … to be … so beautiful?

But the movie is an astounding adaption of the novel and I will watch again to check more changes from the movie and the novel =).

I will listen the complete work of Goldberg Variations of Bach, since I’ve only heard the Aria part, and here are some links to rapidshare.com:

Descartes’ Error

Descartes' Error BookI finally finished to read this book (it took more than I thought), now doesn’t seem much controversial as was ten years ago. The book put back the emotions in the reason processing, and shows examples of patients similar to Phineas Gage’s (I knew first by Ripley ;-) ) who had frontal lobe damage due an accident, he was ‘unaffected’ in the cognitive task, he was aware of everything before and after the accident, but he developed a coarse attitude and he couldn’t work with others due this.

The fact is this book is a good reading for understanding some neurobiology aspects of brain.

The Bourne Identity

The Bourne IdentityI’ve just finished to read The Bourne Identity book, I have to say even the Movie is very different from the book, is one of the few movies I really like even there is only loosely based on a book.

I really appreciate the movie since it have more action than book, the book has a great suspense story and there are a lot of characters each one hold a part of the identity of Bourne. I’m waiting the third movie of Jason Bourne and I hope the recent books that Robert Ludlum have written (or is writting) are as good as this one.

I will need soon buy more books of the Bourne Series as  I want to know more about this =).

Memoirs of a Geisha

Memoirs of a Geish, BookFrom a time ago I wanted to read this book, the movie wasn’t very good from my point of view, but I wanted to check the book since I thought it will provide a more historic background than movie.

I wasn’t dissapointed, even there is no a precise historic background you will get some historic notes, and of course many details about the life of the geishas which are commonly portrayed as prostitutes. I have to say the book is really well written which will make you think in fact Sayuri is talking with you alone; in this way I see why the movie was very poor compared with this book: it lacks from the Sayuri story telling, in a movie the characters has to reveal all the plot through dialogues and corporal language, meanwhile the book relies solely on story telling through Sayuri. Even the movie doesn’t change the story and events of the book in a great manner it won’t suffice you when you read this great book.

Reading a bit more on wikipedia article of this book I’m surprised because Mineko Iwasaki, the Geisha who Arthur Golden thanks in the book as providing a interview for the book sued to the author because she cannot reveal details about their clients but she wrote an autobiography which I think she should reveal more details than a fiction novel…
